Tee Martin has become one of the most divisive figures on the USC coaching staff.
That's not unusual for a USC offensive coordinator. But it is unusual when you are getting blamed for playcalling and not calling all the plays.
Even worse, Martin never admits to the media he does not call all the plays.
So he is taking a bullet for Clay Helton, who cowardly places all the blame on Martin.
Helton should be ashamed of himself for not admitting he calls some of the plays. But why does Martin protect him?
Is living in the South Bay and making a lot of money at USC worth losing your dignity? The answer is yes for Martin.
Last year, he told athletic dept. officials he was frustrated and would leave after the season. But he stayed and signed a contract extension.
So he fumes on the inside but follows the party line that he calls all the plays and takes all the fan criticism. Even though Helton calls plays too.
It just shows you how dysfunctional this coaching staff is.
By the way, Helton is furious, I hear, that I have found out he calls plays too. That's how bad he does not want to take responsibility.
