Scott Wolf's USC-Arizona State prediction
If you believe USC has not been committed to the running game this season, that should change today.
With Jack Sears taking his first career snaps in a college football game, USC figures to have a conservative game plan against Arizona State.
My question is whether Clay Helton or Tee Martin will call the plays but that is always a question.
Sears is bigger and stronger than JT Daniels. But he is probably more likely to make a poor decision or not recognize something with no college experience. The other obstacle he faces is that USC kept him on the scout team all season while Daniels and Matt Fink got the reps with the offense.
That changed this week but is a week enough time?
I also don’t like the way USC tried to wait until the last minute to make a decision when people inside the program said Sears would start during the week. That shows a lack of belief and hopefully it does not affect Sears.
I expect Arizona State to blitz on almost every passing situation today.
The Sun Devils are not a good team. But they do not get blown out. And they should have enough offense to give USC's shoddy pass defense problems.
When five-star recruit Chris Steele talks about players not being developed at USC, he is referring to players like cornerback Iman Marshall. He could be referring to the entire offensive line.
Any ways, with that in mind, Arizona State actually has a chance. So I am going to go with the Sun Devils, possibly because Lynn Swann needs to wake up.
Prediction: Arizona State 27, USC 20
