Thursday Whispers: Quarterback Situation Can Have Long-Term Consequences On Team
A USC fan could logically ask what difference does it make if Clay Helton shows favoritism to a player or who starts at quarterback?
Well, here are some examples of how it can affect the team: There is a feeling among some of the wide receivers that JT Daniels favors his high school teammate, Amon-Ra St. Brown.
This has a demoralizing impact on the morale of the receivers. Speculation is increasing among the players that Michael Pittman will turn pro. That would be a devastating loss.
But it wouldn’t be the first time. Deontay Burnett probably should have returned to USC this season instead of going pro. But sources said one reason left was because of concerns St. Brown would get most of the attention from Daniels.
The receivers’ concerns are not helped either when Helton said this week he hasn’t decided if Matt Fink or Jack Sears will be the starter.
Many want Sears to start and he hasn’t locked up the No. 2 spot after his Arizona State performance? No wonder Helton is losing credibility.
