Thanksgiving Whispers: Clay Helton Can't Even Handle Who Is No. 2 QB
You could almost write a book this season on how Clay Helton’s mangled the quarterback situation since the Arizona State game.
But once you get past that, look at the disaster he created over who is the No. 2 quarterback. Here is why i say this:
A source close to Matt Fink tells me that Fink and Jack Sears did not find out who was the backup for the UCLA game until late Friday night.
This is completely ridiculous. Why would you string along the backups until the last minute? Was Helton afraid to offend someone?
When you considerJT Daniels is not mobile, and a backup could easily play if Daniels took a hard hit, it makes no sense to keep your quarterbacks in the dark over who is No. 2.
It’s even worse when you consider Fink did not practice this week because his broken ribs were bothering him. Did he feel better last week? Why would he even be in a game if he were not 100 percent?
Yet Helton still jerked everyone around.
Fink’s absence from practice this week prevented a repeat of the situation this week and Sears will be the backup against Notre Dame.
And to think USC might actually bring Helton back.
