Wednesday Whispers: Coaching Turmoil Could Cost USC Recruit
Did Clay Helton truly make any real changes yesterday on the USC coaching staff?
His cosmetic tweaking of the staff resulted in the firing of Tee Martin, Ronnie Bradford and Kenechi Udeze.
Martin was not expected to remain but the way he was treated did not go down well in some circles especially since he was a vital recruiter for the Trojans.
Sources said USC coaches were confident they could land Narbonne offensive tackle Jonah Tauanu'u, a top 100 prospect who is committed to Oregon.
In a normal world, a top prospect from Narbonne would go to USC anyways.
But the Martin news was viewed as a real setback by at least one USC coach.
“We might lose him now because of the way Tee got fired,” the coach said.
Specifically, some felt Martin was humilated because he was demoted during the season and then could have said he resigned but instead was simply fired before even meeting with USC coach Clay Helton.
