Clay Helton Still Doesn't Get It
It would be nice if Clay Helton showed at least a bit of contrition since the season ended.
Instead, he remains in complete denial even as he signed a lackluster recruiting class.
He has not fired special teams coach John Baxter. He has not fired defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast.
I have talked to several people inside the athletic dept. and they tell me he has done nothing yet to instill discipline since the end of the season.
I hear weightlifting workouts have been sparsely attended the past three weeks.
Then Helton made this comment Wednesday: There will be "accountability to do the right thing on the field over and over again."
USC has major problems OFF-THE-FIELD.
Helton is not addressing that. He needs a new strength coach and a hard-nosed assistant to bring order to the players, who think they can do whatever they want.
If you read these posts, you already know I wrote about a player who refused to dress for the Notre Dame game, unhappy he would not start. He was not punished for his decision.
Helton is basically a joke and even the players know this.
