Thursday Whispers: Inside Look At New Staff

Thursday Whispers: Inside Look At New Staff

So what are the first impressions of new USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Co.?

They have only been at work for a couple weeks or so but here is what we have heard so far:

Kingsbury and running backs coach Mike Jinks (who was with Kingsbury at Texas Tech) are said to be the first coaches in the office every morning.

This actually jibes with what was said about Kingsbury at Texas Tech, where he was known for long office hours.

I’ve also heard some stories that suggest Kingsbury sees through some of the coaches who constantly curry favor with Clay Helton.

That is a good sign because during Helton’s tenure, favoritism toward coaches and players has been a big problem.

I’ve heard less favorable things about defensive backs coach Greg Burns. Remember when he left USC in 2006 for Tampa Bay, Pete Carroll was not unhappy to see him go. The big question with Burns will be whether the players respect him. We will see.
