Helton: As soon as Bryce Love sees a gap, he explodes
Clay Helton knows his USC front seven will be up to quite a challenge this weekend. The Trojans travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to play Stanford (5:30 PM PST, Fox). That means containing Bryce Love.
The senior tailback was a Heisman Trophy Nominee in 2017 after rushing for 2118 yards and 19 touchdowns. He’ll also be looking for his first break out performance, as San Diego State held him to under 30 yards rushing in the season opener.
It's also worth noting USC gave up 308 yards rushing to UNLV.
Helton expects to see the very best from Love on Saturday. He hopes to see the best from his defense as well.
“You’re talking about a kid that has 4.3 speed, that has some of the best patience you’ve ever seen,” Helton said directly after Tuesday’s practice. “You don’t see him bounce outside. He’s a kid that believes in his linemen. He hides right behind them, stays patient and as soon as he sees a gap, he explodes. That same patience that a Le’veon Bell has, he’s got that. That’s what all great runners have.”
