Monday Whispers: Clay Helton's Big Promises

Monday Whispers: Clay Helton's Big Promises

It’s been a week since Kliff Kingsbury left USC and Clay Helton doesn’t seem to be making much progress on replacing him.

But that is not the impression Helton is leaving with people in the athletic dept. In fact, he is making bold statements about who will replace Kingsbury. Helton said NFL coaches from all over are contacting him to join USC.

This is interesting because Helton refused to consider Norv Turner last year for the quarterbacks job so he could promote then-28-year-old Bryan Ellis.

There has been some speculation Helton might hire Rams offensive assistant Jedd Fisch. But the way Rams coaches are raising their stock by being near head coach Sean McVay, you would think Fisch could do better than working for Helton.

It’s good Helton is making big promises. We will all find out eventually who he hires and can remember what he said beforehand to see if it makes sense.
