Tuesday Whispers: The Real Rift Between Clay Helton And Tee Martin
With Tee Martin reportedly headed to Tennessee, he could tell the truth about his relationship with Clay Helton. But don’t bet on it.
Martin is too cautious. He never said in public that it bothered him to share playcalling with Clay Helton and Tyson Helton especially when Clay Helton made it seem like Martin called the plays.
This was good for Helton because it made Martin the scapegoat.
But here is the purpose of this post: Martin once told a former USC assistant coach that Helton was “two-faced” and “backstabbed” him by secretly calling plays.
Those are pretty damning comments about Helton, who is always referred to as a nice guy or good guy in media reports. Martin’s view shows that the opinion behind-the-scenes can be much different.
Former secondary coach Ronnie Bradford used to complain to other coaches that Helton would not let him discipline players.
Those who work for Helton do not share the rosy view of his personality that outsiders describe in the media.
