Wednesday Whispers: The Program Unlike Any Other

Wednesday Whispers: The Program Unlike Any Other

You know who has hired an offensive coordinator since Kliff Kingsbury left USC on Jan. 7?

Date......School....New OC (previous school)

1/9 Tennessee...Jim Chaney (Georgia) 1/10 Michigan....Josh Gattis (Alabama)
1/10 Michigan St....Brad Salem (promoted)
1/11 Miami.......Dan Enos (Alabama)
1/11 Georgia... James Coley (promoted)
1/11 Utah......Andy Ludwig (Vanderbilt)
1/14 Pitt...... Mark Whipple (UMass HC)
1/15 Boston Coll... Mike Bajakian (NFL)

I spoke to a USC assistant coach on Tuesday night about this.

“I’ve never seen a program like this,” he said. “It always feels like we are in disarray but we just keep our heads up and go along.”

This is the USC football program that Lynn Swann has helped prolong under the shoddy leadership of Clay Helton.

USC is so paralyzed that the much-criticized strength coach, Ivan Lewis, could leave as soon as today for the Seattle Seahawks. Lewis should have been fired after the season but instead Helton and Swann allowed him to stay.

The only way real change happens is if people somehow leave for other jobs.

What a joke.

And can we expect Helton to hire a good replacement for Lewis? Or will he simply call Western Kentucky?

Sometimes, it is hard to believe this is a marquee program that should be one of the best in the country.
