Wednesday Whispers: Donors Are Getting Restless
Maybe the toughest sports job in Los Angeles is being in charge of season-ticket renewals for USC football.
Lynn Swann didn’t do any favors for the sales dept. when he stubbornly kept Clay Helton. A lot of fans are saying they don’t renew.
But I’m hearing there’s even been discontent even filtered up to the new suite holders who assume their fancy seats next season.
Some have asked to be released from their suite commitments.
As a compromise, USC has offered to increase the number of years required to fully pay off the suites. USC hopes that Helton (or someone else) will turn things around to placate the suite holders. And extending their grace period to pay off the suites gives everyone some breathing room.
This is a far cry from a year ago when USC bragged it already sold all but one of the suites, which range in cost from $7.5 million to $10 million.
