Tuesday Whispers: How Do Rest Of USC Coaches Feel About Kingsbury Saga?
With all the attention focused on Kliff Kingsbury, an interesting question is how his colleagues feel about his courtship with the NFL?
I asked a member of the coaching staff, who said there are currently two groups: The first group thinks Kingsbury should do what he thinks is best for himself and remain at USC if he does not get a suitable NFL offer.
But there is a second group that resents Kingsbury and wants him to depart. The funny part is the coach I spoke to believe Clay Helton fits into this category because he can regain the offense and won’t have Kingsbury around to take his job if USC struggles.
A former USC assistant coach told me Kingsbury won’t be happy working with coaches like John Baxter, who like to take credit for success and blame others for failure.
This is an aspect of the Helton era that has hurt the program from Day 1. And Lynn Swann doesn’t seem to mind despite his culture change promises.
