Thursday Whispers: USC Making Plans After Clay Helton?
No decisions have made on Clay Helton’s future . . . yet.
But I’m hearing some administrators are already making plans on the assumption Helton doesn’t return in 2020.
How? Well, I heard there’s been talks about USC recruiting budget getting an infusion of cash in December and January in case USC brings in a new coach, who might want to aggresively scour the country to repair the Trojans’ image with high school coaches/prospects.
“A lot of budgets have been frozen,” an athletic dept. source said. “But they are talking about increasing some football budgets because they know a new coach would want to spend a lot of money to try and repair the damage.”
Obviously, if Urban Meyer were hired, he would not stand by and let some USC bean counter tell him there is not enough money for recruiting or any other aspect of the football program.
