Wednesday Whispers: Feeling Of Resignation Creeping Into Season
As USC prepares to go to Notre Dame, I’ve detected a change in talking to some athletic dept. employees.
They are starting to think more-and-more about what is going to happen in six weeks instead of what happens Saturday.
“It seems like people are doing things to prepare for a coaching change,” an employee who asked not to be identified said. “I know one sponsor was told to expect better times next season because of expected changes.”
None of these people have any first-hand knowledge that a change will made but they are anticipating it. When that happens, it is hard to convince people to be optimistic about the (current) season.
I remember this happening before during Paul Hackett’s last season. People started tuning out Hackett and the games and just worried about who would replace him.
In May, Lynn Swann fired Rick Carr, who was director of security for the athletic dept.
But I’m hearing he is still on the payroll. So did the university override Swann’s decision? As far as I know, Carr has not been working at USC. Stay tuned.
