Five-Star Sav'ell Smalls Eliminates USC
USC offered a scholarship to Sav’ell Smalls back in March of 2017 and the product of Garfield HS in Seattle, Wash., showed immediate interest in potentially becoming a Trojan.
The universally recognized five-star linebacker took a visit to USC the very next month and raved about his trip to anyone who would listen.
Flash forward to February of 2019 and the USC coaching staff now seems completely out of contention for the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder. Smalls released a list of top schools on Sunday evening and the Trojans didn’t make the cut.
Featured on Smalls’ list of favorites are Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Washington State. But USC, traditional West Coast powerhouse, was nowhere to be found.
USC247.com caught up with Smalls and asked why he eliminated the Trojans from contention. He pointed to his uncertainty about the future of the coaches at USC.
“(There’s) a lot of drama going on and no certainty of what the coaching staff is going to look like when I’m on a campus somewhere,” Smalls said of USC.
Smalls is the third five-star from the West Coast to eliminate USC from consideration, joining Elias Ricks and D.J. Uiagalelei.
