Tuesday Whispers: USC's Recruiting Dept. Needs Overhaul
Clay Helton produced another eye-roll moment recently at a team meeting.
He praised one of the recruiting employees (I will name him at another time). But several players wanted to laugh because they had no idea what the person does?
This is standard-operating procedure within the football program. People do things but with little organization.
That’s why you suddenly had recruiting employees making home visits as faux coaches making home visits.
I wrote last week how recruiting coordinator Eric Ziskin left USC and now the other USC sites have picked it up. Was Ziskin unhappy? I have not spoken to him. But when I talk to other people who work in the football office, there are plenty of employees who witness the lax atmosphere under Helton and wonder when it will change? They also say many employees are unhappy.
The recruiting operation seems to be a hodge-podge of people who just do whatever they want.
Like everything else, it won’t change until Helton is gone.
