Thursday Whispers: Clay Helton Botches Another One
A coach from a Big 12 school laughed this morning when I asked what is wrong with Clay Helton?
USC offered cornerback Clark Phillips of La Habra today. He is a 4-star prospect in USC’s backyard and already has 36 offers including Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU and Notre Dame?
“I don’t know why he is so bad but I hope he keeps it up,” the coach said.
When Helton speaks, you should always be skeptical.
But when he said ex-recruiting director Eric Ziskin wanted to spend more time with his family, he brought out the standard excuse coaches always use when they resign.
Do you think if USC were winning and well-coached, Ziskin would want to spend more time with his family?
Do you think it frustrated Ziskin that USC had offered players like Phillips?
It frustrates me.
USC is becoming a laughingstock among the coaching community.
New president Carol Folt needs to be briefed on all this ASAP.
