Bunkley-Shelton overwhelmed by USC offer: I’ve only been about football since I watched my first USC game
Lavon Bunkley-Shelton was first recognized as a potential high end football player way back in 2017. That’s when the universally recognized four-star prospect first started receiving scholarship offers from big name power five programs. He was just a rising sophomore at Junipero Serra HS at the time
Flash forward to March of 2019 and Bunkley-Shelton now has an incredibly impressive list of scholarship offers. That list is basically a who’s who of the college football world. Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Nebraska and Oklahoma are some of the name schools that want him to enroll and play football. On Saturday, USC added itself to the hunt.
Bunkley-Shelton visited USC’s campus for its junior day and the Trojan coaches extended a scholarship offer. The 6-foot, 190-pound receiver tells USC247.com that he was overwhelmed with emotion after it happened.
“I’m just trying to take this all in,” Bunkley-Shelton said. “This offer means a whole lot to me. It’s my hometown. I’ve been to SC games all my life. I grew up playing soccer and my Godfather took me to my first SC game when I was six. I’ve been about football ever since.”
Bunkley-Shelton would be a great fit in USC’s new wide open Air Raid offense but has also shown the ability to play defensive back as well. The Trojans’ roster desperately needs players in the defensive backfield as well.
