Tuesday Whispers: USC Coach On First Scrimmage
I spoke to a USC coach about Saturday’s scrimmage.
“Really, the only player who stood out was (tailback) Markese Stepp,” the coach said. “He is a load.”
Overall, the offense was inconsistent, which is normal for a spring scrimmage but might have disappointed fans who heard so much about the new Air Raid offense.
“There were good and bad moments,” the coach said. “I don’t think the quarterbacks are fully comfortable yet so that will be an issue during the spring. It’s also hard to judge because of the depth issues, especially in the secondary.”
USC had only three scholarship cornerbacks (Greg Johnson, Isaac Taylor-Stuart, Briton Allen) for Saturday’s scrimmage.
I asked the coach if the practices are dramatically different from last year, since tempo and focus were supposed to change according to Clay Helton.
“Not really,” he said. “It’s not a whole lot different than last year.”
