Monday Whispers: USC Did Miss Strength Coaches
When Clay Helton told the players six weeks ago they would have a new coach within two weeks, it did nothing to lift their morale that there was not a new coach until today, when Aaron Ausmus returned to USC for his third stint.
Now some might argue USC could survive without its strength coach because there are plenty of other ones to fill in for a few weeks.
But here is something a USC player told me last weekend: A women’s lacrosse coach led some workout sessions for the football team.
The player told me some football players were shocked a strength coach wasn’t leading every session.
But USC lost at least two coaches to the Seattle Seahawks and interim strength coach Keith Belton resigned to take a position at Kansas after being informed he would not be considered for the head job.
It’s almost unprecendented some of the stuff that has been going on under Clay Helton.
