Tuesday Whispers: The Real Reason Chuma Edoga's NFL Stock Rose
The fact offensive tackle Chuma Edoga was a third-round pick did not surprise insiders at USC.
They saw all the immature things Edoga did on the field, the missed practices and inconsistent effort the past four seasons.
But the reason they were not surprised is because some of them said former offensive line Neil Callaway had ways of getting under Edoga’s skin and making him miserable at USC. Once free of Callaway, they believed Edoga would make a good impression on NFL teams.
Even though Edoga made mistakes, people within the football program said he would have been a much-better player at USC if Callaway was not his position coach.
Remember when Clay Helton said hiring a recruiting coordinator was just as important as hiring an offensive coordinator?
Helton hired Spencer Harris of Fresno State several weeks ago. But now I hear Harris was hired by Joseph Woods, who is Helton’s executive director of football operations.
So if it was such an important hire, why didn’t Helton personally make the hire?
