Tuesday Whispers: Ticket Sales And Other Notes

A USC official tells me that he hears season-ticket sales are down about 35 percent as the refurbished Coliseum nears its opening date.

Despite a furious campaign to get fans to renew, there has been a significant amount of non-renewals.

“We are calling people at night who have not renewed,” the official said. “We will take a one-year hit and hope the team is successful and people come back in 2020.

Even though a lot of athletic dept. employees believe Clay Helton is not doing a good job, they are rooting for him to make their jobs easier.

  • USC administrators are bracing themselves for the NCAA officially investigating the basketball program this summer. I’m told they are worried more about some charges made that were not prosecuted (alleged payments to players) than the issues that involved Tony Bland’s court case.

  • USC wide receiver Michael Pittman and defensive end Christian Rector will represent the Trojans at Pac-12 media day on July 24 in Hollywood.

  • There is increasing speculation within the athletic dept. that beach volleyball coach Anna Collier, who won three national titles, sought a raise and was denied before she eventually “retired” from college coaching last week.
