Wednesday Whispers: Money Talks At USC
I wrote yesterday how USC fired its long-time security director Rick Carr.
Now I hear Carr recently had a birthday party and former USC coach Pete Carroll sent a video offering best wishes. Helton did not attend the party or offer best wishes. This was not seem as accidental by insiders at USC.
But Helton recently held a surprise party at his house for the wife of director of player development Gavin Morris.
Morris is the nephew of former USC player Al Cowlings, who has a building named after him at USC thanks to a $15 million donation from Wayne Hughes, who is on the USC Board of Trustees.
That led many within the athletic dept. to believe Helton only cares about people who can help him. He believes Morris/Cowlings can help him. Carr can not help him.
