Thursday Whispers: A Kinder, Gentler Lynn Swann?
Is Lynn Swann feeling the heat?
I’m told by people within the athletic dept. Swann is suddenly acting engaged and less arrogant around some employees. And they actually see him around Heritage Hall.
Insiders believe Swann is reacting to the impending arrival of new president Carol Folt, who already saw Swann miss a Board of Trustees retreat in March to attend an autograph show and sees Swann leading a dept. embroiled in the College Admissions scandal.
Swann is even taking a hands-on approach to some projects and doing things regular athletic director does, sources said.
How long will this last?
“He wants to make a good impression on Carol Folt and doesn’t want anyone to say something negative to her,” an administrator said. “Lynn doesn’t need this job but it would crush his ego if he were removed.”
When I saw the video of the billionaire who shoved Raptos guard Kyle Lowry at the NBA Finals last night, I thought, "I bet he has a USC connection."
Little did I know how connected Mark Stevens is to USC.
Stevens, who attended USC, is a member of the Board of Trustees and has donated more than $100 million to USC, including $10 million for the Stevens Academic Center, which is part of the athletic dept. He also donated money to the Caruso Catholic Center, which Board chair person Rick Caruso got built.
Oh, and look below, he also knows USC athletic director Lynn Swann.
