Wednesday Whispers: Letter To The USC President

Here is a key part of a letter sent to new USC president Carol Folt this week:

“(Lynn Swann) treats employees, donors, and former teammates with the same dosage of disdain.

Big donors have experienced his wrath. Former players such as Bob Jensen and Greg Slough have gone on the air and called Lynn to severely criticize him only to be ignored. As Greg Slough told me recently, “I was recruited by over 30 schools and chose USC because of its spirit and tradition.”

Wonder where that has vanished? Another friend of mine who has donated heavily to USC and contributed to Lynn’s ill-fated run for governor in the State of Pennsylvania, figured he would contact him when became the AD. He did and the call was never returned to my friend.

When Pat Haden was the AD, you could at least expect inappropriate responses on a regular basis which is weird considering that proper conduct is paramount. With Swann there is no transparency or utterances probably because he is under siege.

Signing autographs and declining them is not reason for condemnation, however, when you are at such a high level of exposure, it makes for good PR. Heck, even Pat Haden signed autographs! Personally, I was dissed twice by Swann politely but arrogantly when asking to sign some incredible pieces and not a napkin. Pretty amazing that he was off in the Spring at a card show signing autographs for money at a far greater fee than others who had far superior pro careers than he did. As to the USC Song Girls that was just another gaffe.

Lynn had some phony excuse and canned them for the rest of the basketball season last December. Next on the docket, the academic Scandal! This should be an interesting one since Pat Haden is being investigated on this issue and let us see if Swann survives this interrogation. Naturally, he denies any knowledge of it yet the biggest perpetrator was under his watch!
