Tuesday Whispers: Will Clay Helton Shake Up The QB Race?
Some USC coaches said they would not be surprised if Clay Helton pulls a surprise on the QB depth chart and makes freshman Kedon Slovis No. 2 behind JT Daniels.
They say Helton likes Slovis and just might want to reward him. There is a high risk to this because Helton might lose the faith of Matt Fink and Jack Sears, who are older than the true freshman.
Many think Daniels might get injured if he takes any hard hits and that would cause a dilemma for Helton, because he might need to throw Sears or Fink into a game. Would they be mentally ready if Slovis is officially the No. 2?
A former member of USC’s radio broadcast team has told friends he was pressured by athletic dept. officials for being too negative when talking about the team.
The only player from the USC 1969 team expected to attend Sunday’s scrimmage is defensive back Sandy Durko. Around 25 members of the team are boycotting because they are offended over the brief ceremony planned.
