Wednesday Whispers: Why USC Practice Got More Physical
One USC coach last week suggested to Clay Helton on Monday that USC needs more physical practices.
Helton responded with a four-minute, full-tackling period on Tuesday.
As USC heads toward its season-opener with Fresno State, a lot of observers are going to want to see how physical the Trojans are. Helton is closing practices to the media once the season starts because he is upset some of the internet media constantly criticize his practices as not being physical enough.
Helton listened, sort of, to his assistant coach Monday after only 2 of the first 8 practices were in full pads. But there is talk of not going in full pads a lot the rest of training camp. Stay tuned.
Some parents have complained among themselves that Steve Daniels, the father of quarterback JT Daniels, seems to have more access/influence than many parents.
It may or may not be true. But is undeniable that Steve Daniels is omnipresent. It is also true some of the reporters who cover USC want to please him, which means they would never criticize JT Daniels.
