Wednesday Whispers: An Inside View Of QB Decisions
I spoke to a USC coach this morning about last night’s quarterback announcements. Remember, more than two weeks ago that coaches believed Clay Helton would make Kedon Slovis the No. 2 QB.
“Coach (Helton) never really considered anyone else but JT (Daniels) for the starting job,” the coach said. “We expected that. But during training camp, he fell in love with Kedon. He couldn’t stop talking about him. He’s young and has a lot of room to get better.
“The other guys (Jack Sears, Matt Fink) are older and are expected to transfer out after the season. So Coach is going all in with Kedon. Some of us were talking a couple days ago about what happens when (top recruit) Bryce Young gets here. There will be a lot of QBs to please.”
Of course, one big question is whether Helton will still be here next year.
Now that these decisions have been made, expect Sears to transfer after he gets his degree in December if he is not playing. Who knows with Fink? He should have transferred in the summer when he had a chance.
