Thursday Whispers: What People Are Talking About Inside Heritage Hall
Several coaches have told athletic dept. employees the real reason true freshman Kedon Slovis was made the backup quarterback this week was because Clay Helton expects Jack Sears and Matt Fink to leave after the season.
So Helton wanted to invest all his time with Slovis, who can be the backup for at least 2-3 more seasons along with incoming freshman Bryce Young.
That assumes JT Daniels will win the starting job next year and the year after. If Helton is still coach, Daniels is probably safe.
There is a lot of chatter that former USC director of security Rick Carr is going to sue USC for wrongful termination.
It can sometimes be impossible to get straight answers from USC.
Here’s what an official said about a wall in the new pressbox that pays tribute to football players-turned-broadcasters. It has Frank Gifford, Matt Leinart, Lynn Swann, Pat Haden, Keyshawn Johnson, Willie McGinest and Curtis Conway.
But does not include Petros Papadakis, who is frequently critical of USC.
““We have photos of about a half dozen former All-Amercian/championship/NFL-type players who transitioned to broadcasting careers. (There was) not space to include everyone, just a representative sample. (It was the) same with other new graphics throughout the Coliseum and Tower. We couldn’t include every player or moment and tried for representative examples.”
