Tuesday Whispers: What's Going On At Quarterback?
A USC coach tells me there have been discussions between Clay Helton and the rest of the coaching staff about asking Jack Sears to return to the team.
The coach said on Monday it did not look like Kedon Slovis would be able to play this week.
“The doctors might clear him later in the week but if they don’t we’re down to Matt Fink and the walk-ons,” the coach said. “Helton is asking people if they think Sears will come back.”
Sears is still going to classes at USC and working out. He has not spoken to Helton since he decided to transfer in August. Sources said Sears was not interested in returning to the team after JT Daniels got hurt.
Would he reconsider if Helton called him this week?
That is the big question. But this is what is swirling at the McKay Center.
The same coach told me he does not think safety Talanoga Hufanga will play this week because of a concussion.
USC never announced Hufanga was hurt or suffered a concussion.
“Maybe he will get cleared too but it didn’t look good after the game,” the coach said.
